让阅读成为一种信仰,让文学成为一种力量
“吹灭读书灯,一身都是月。”
苏州科技城外国语学校融合二部开展了以阅读为主题的文学周活动,通过阅读让学生感受文学的力量。
As autumn leaves us behind and we welcome winter, Fusion 2 department held our annual literacy event. The students have been looking forward to celebrating the world of literacy and reading as they prepared for this exciting activity.
在文学周里,阅读属于每一个人。
周一,融合二部的学生进行了极致阅读竞赛,孩子们在阅读中摆出各种有趣的姿势,或者在攀岩中阅读,在舞蹈中阅读,在倒立中阅读。让静态地阅读融入动态地运动,展现出体力与智力的交响。
周二,学生穿着舒适的睡衣来校园相互分享读书体验,孩子们在苏科外的校园里仿佛回到了家,让阅读成为随时随地随心可以发生的事情。
周三,学生参与了以首字母缩写D.E.A.R为代表的“放下一切并阅读”活动。
The first activity of the week we named “Extreme Reading” and the learners were asked to take photos of themselves reading in the most unusual locations. Daniel from Grade 3 was spotted reading high on a wall during his weekly rock-climbing class. Yaha from Grade 2 constructed a chair out of books and spent some time there enjoying a good book.Tuesday saw the arrival of “Pyjama Day” where children and teachers alike came dressed in their most comfortable sleepwear. As most of us enjoy reading just before we go to sleep, this provided an excellent connection to how many people find pleasure in a book.
当学生听到“Drop everything and read”时,需要停止正在做的任何事情,抓住身边一切读物,马上阅读。学生打破了常规的阅读形式,以一种新的姿态投入到阅读中。
周四,学生选择书中人物的造型来设计自己的疯狂发型,充满科技感的外星人、勇敢的哈利波特、疯狂的海盗船长......学生们通过阅体验他人视角。
周五,孩子们用想象力装扮成书中的各色人物或者英语单词,用扮演和表演的方式真实复原人物,让现实中的孩子和作家笔下的角色零距离,“extraterrestrials”“peacock”“photosynthesis”等词汇的装扮又生动又极富创意。学生们从中明白,我们可以为学习来阅读,也可以为享受而阅读。
老师们精心策划的活动为孩子们的阅读生活带来了小小的魔力,为学生的终身阅读奠基。
“Drop Everything and Read” was heard ringing through the halls and classrooms of Fusion 2 department on Wednesday. Students were waiting eagerly for this command as they had to stop whatever they were doing, pick up their book and read for 15 minutes.On Thursday, we witnessed several weird and wonderful hairstyles throughout the department as we embraced “Crazy Hair Day”. Teachers and students used their imaginations to create the most unusual hairstyles they could think of.The finale of our week-long event took place on Friday in the Primary School auditorium. We held a “fashion show” with the catwalk models being characters form favourite books. We saw graceful swans, extra-terrestrials, a colourful peacock, amongst others.These magical lands, and fantasy realms with fairies, dragons, pirates, boys and girls; why are they important and how do they enhance our learning experience?
在活动期间,无论是教室、户外、还是图书馆 “阅读沙发”都被络绎不绝的朗读者们占领了。大家阅读,相互分享,这样生动有趣的形式激发了孩子们的阅读兴趣,让阅读在融合二部真正成为一件比“游戏”还有趣的事。随着他们的长大,我们的孩子也必将由朗读的聆听者成长为自己生命最好的朗读者。
Whether in the classroom, outdoors, or in the library, there has been an endless stream of reading. We read to each other, sharing each other’s company and joy of reading. The students showed great interest and reading really become a "game"; playful, interesting and educative.
图书馆课程作为融合二部课程体系中重要的一环,为学生的语言习得与文学周活动提供了支持,同学们也获得丰富的学习资源。
在这学期,融合二部图书馆老师Vanessa女士针对学生的阅读目标对课程进行了调整:“根据课程的十大培养者目标我们设置了探究者区、知识渊博区、冒险者区和全面发展区等借阅区域。同时,考虑到学生的阅读水平,将图书根据初学者、进阶者与熟练者进行分类。根据图书的实用性,区分了功能性读物与非功能性读物。并尽可能地将书本的封面展示出来,更加直观地帮助学生进行选择,提供更好的视觉享受。每次的图书馆课程,除了有专业的图书老师进行借阅的指导,还会有志愿者老师为学生进行文本朗读。我们都知道,聆听是为了将来更好地阅读。”
Beyond literacy week, our library provides a space for our students to get lost in the world of books. After careful observation, our library teacher adjusted the books and sorted them according to favorite topics. At the same time, considering the students' reading level, books are classified according to different reading phases. Taking into consideration that our students are second language learners, we show the covers of books as much as possible to support students to choose books more intuitively.
图书馆课课程是建立在合作备课、团队教学和对学生成果共同负责的基础上的,它要求教师和图书管理员共享专业知识。它不仅仅关乎老师之间的合作,也为学生打造了一个共享的学习者社区。
阅读拓宽学生的视野,丰富学生对于生活方式、思维方式、价值观念的认知和理解,同时有助于提高其跨文化交际能力。阅读把语言和文化有机地结合起来,通过每周两次以上的图书馆课程及每周至少借阅4本书的规定,培养学生的快速阅读能力、综合阅读能力和搜集资料的能力,为学生步入中学乃至大学打好基础。通过阅读和聆听不同语言书籍,可以让学生在讨论中表达想法,共情书本中的人物事迹,有助于增加学生的同理心和宽容心。
The library curriculum is based on collaborative lesson preparation, team teaching and shared responsibility to support students in their ‘Units of Inquiry’. It requires teachers and librarians to share resources and expertise. It's not just about collaboration between teachers, but also about creating a shared community of learners for students. Two library lessons per week and borrowing at least four books per week, cultivates students' love of reading, comprehension exercises and research skills, laying a good foundation for students that will eventually go on to middle school and university. By reading and listening to books in different languages, students can express their ideas in discussions and connect with the stories of the characters, which helps to increase their creativity and imagination.
融合二部四年级学生周洋Beata说:“阅读是一件很快乐的事情,书中的世界灿烂盛大,帮助我去思考与权衡。我很享受阅读。”
Beata (Grade Four student): "Reading is a very happy thing. The world in the book is brilliant and grand, which helps me to think and make decisions. I enjoy reading."
融合二部一年级费书曼Anna的家长认为:“在文学周期间,孩子、老师们通过不同主题的活动发现彼此不同的一面,真实、有趣。这也是我觉得有意思的一点,先去了解然后才能更好的相互理解,在我们的生活中也是如此。我们选择苏科外融合二部是因为它的教育目标和理念是和我们一致的,孩子们是不一样的,每个个体都是独特的,他们都需要被成全。”
G1 Anna's parents: "During Literacy Week, children and teachers discover different sides of each other through activities with different themes. We chose SSFLS Fusion II because its educational goals and philosophy are the same as ours. Children are different, each individual is unique, and they all need to be fulfilled."

Our children continue to grow and reading is an amazing way to retain their curiosity. Curious people ask questions, read and explore. They are active about seeking information or experience, and are willing to meet challenges and to broaden their horizons. They are not shy to ask questions and delve deeply into the topic that interests them. Suzhou Science and Technology Town Foreign Language School attaches great importance to helping students form the habit of reading from early childhood onwards, making literature a pillar to support their growth in life.
